Why doesn’t BDSM community receive the same respect as other alternative lifestyles like the LGBTQ community does…

For several years we in the BDSM community have hidden behind shadows because of people’s narrow minded prejudice against the BDSM lifestyle. Just recently Littlefield which has a heavy BDSM orientated grid was listed on HG Business for leading in the Opensimulator grid survey.  Almost immediately the ugly bigotry and prejudice crept in with a comment by one of the users named 1derworld – “Who would of thunk low self esteem and BDSM would be the large population in opensims :(”  Now I have to wonder if Littlefield was a Gay / Lesbian or Transgender grid if the same type of remark would have been forthcoming.  I suspect it wouldn’t have.  To assume or insinuate that a group of people has low self esteem because they choose to have an alternative lifestyle is nothing short of bigotry.

I’d like to site another example…  Recently, one of the members of HG Vision’s Magazine made a request that we create an article regarding the BDSM themed regions on Littlefield Grid.  We received our reply from Sunbeam Magic the editor of HG Vision’s Magazine today – “I regret to inform you this, but the Vision’z Staff Team voted NO on accepting your article, citing HG VISIONZ is more of a family magazine and they thought the BDSM theme does not fit in with our format.”  Again, there’s that uninformed bigotry in action.  The article in question had NO sexual overtones, photos, etc.. anywhere.  However because the letters BDSM were prominent in the article, the article has no place in the “family” magazine.  Again, I can’t help but wonder if this article was about a TG, Lesbian, or Gay grid and what it has to offer for that community if it would have received the same response?  Anyone who is interested in the article is more than welcome to request it from us.  You’ll find there is nothing “Adult” or “Offensive” in a sexual nature at all in it.

For those people who watch too many movies, and read too many dime novels,  BDSM isn’t 50 shades of Grey, nor is it Story of “O”.  BDSM is a “lifestyle” just like any other alternative lifestyle.  In the primary case of most people who participate in the BDSM lifestyle, they participate in D/s which means Dominant – Submissive.  Simply put… one person is the Dominant and one person is the Submissive.  It is as simple as that.  It isn’t too unlike “who wears the pants in the family” in a standard married relationship.  The difference is that the D/s partners put a label on their positions.  That doesn’t mean people are beat, whipped, chained, etc.. 24×7 wandering around naked continually.  That would be illogical and nobody can live that kind of lifestyle.

BDSM although it has many factions of bondage, etc.. attached to it, it doesn’t necessarily mean any of that is part of the BDSM lifestyle on a whole.  If the parties involved choose to go that route, that’s a decision they BOTH make.  Not too unlike people in a standard married relationship playing “bedroom bondage” games or playing with sex toys.  Yet you don’t see them condemned for their lifestyle choice.  The collar that a Submissive wears is no different than a ring on the finger of a married couple.  In some cases the collar isn’t even a collar but some other discreet object worn as a reminder that you have a commitment to your Dominant.

It is unfortunate that the BDSM community continues to have this stigma attached to it that the people involved are somehow perverted or sexually deviant simply because they choose to address their partners as Dominant or Submissive.  In all the years I’ve been involved in the community, I’ve found that BDSM’ers tend to have longer lasting and deeper relationships than most married couples in fact.  How many times in the Virtual World as an example do you see people partnered/unpartnered several times in a short period.  Most people I’ve met in the BDSM community are with their partners for years.  Case in point, both of my Submissives have been with me well over 5 years.

Why is that you might ask?  The partners who accept and live this lifestyle have respect for each other and the other partner’s position.  And, the BDSM community also has zero prejudice toward other alternative lifestyles such as the Transgender, Gay, or Lesbian communities.  The BDSM community tends to have respect for ALL people’s likes as long as they are legal and not an attack or hurting a group or person directly.

In conclusion, given the open nature of the world today, and how accepting that the rest of the world has become to the LGBTQ community, maybe the same consideration could be given to the BDSM community since our way of life is no different than anyone elses.  Take the time to talk with people who are involved in the BDSM community for a change, and you’ll be surprised to find out they aren’t at all what you THINK they are based on what you THINK you know from watching TV, Movies, or reading fiction.

Hypergrid Business 7th OpenSim Grid Survey – the results are in and Littlefield Grid has taken the lead this year.

“Littlefield received a perfect score for support, and had the highest scores for technology and community.” (*quote Hypergrid Business)

*screen grab from Hypergrid Business page

Thank you to all our wonderful residents and the HG community that voted for us. You make the grid fantastic!!

Link to survey results click here

Littlefield Grid prides itself on community. We work very hard to provide a fun, happy and safe environment for our residents and visitors, so we are very happy that we scored highly on this section.

We are so very happy that you all think we have wonderful content on our grid. We work hard to source the best content for our grid and we have some of the best content creators in the virtual world.

We are very happy that those who voted said we provide a fast and lag-free grid and that we respond to any issues in a timely fast manner. We owe a big thank you to Walter Balazic, Ashton Nobilis & Admins for the fast and efficient way our grid runs on a daily basis.

Below are some of the resident/visitor comments Littlefield Grid received.

*source Hypergrid Business page

“I’ve been there since day one,” said one Littlefield resident. “My sim has never gone down not even once. It’s lag free, and anytime I’ve needed anything the admins reply almost immediately. What more can I ask?”

“The sense of community provides a wonderfully friendly and social atmosphere,” said one Littlefield resident. “Highly recommended for overall magnificent quality.”

“This grid has the best BDSM content out there, and the nicest community I ever met,” said one Littlefield resident.

“Everyone I have met on this grid are friendly and helpful. Most beautiful builds in OpenSim.”

“FINALLY a real BDSM grid in OpenSim! Now I can leave Second Life!”

“I have been a member of Littlefield Grid for almost four years and in that time the management has always provided optimum performance and support. The range of content is superb and always updated and the sense of community provides a wonderfully friendly and social atmosphere. Highly recommended for overall magnificent quality.”

“It should be noted that Littlefield Grid admins actually live on the grid, and interact extensively with the other residents.”

“Littlefield Grid is a hidden jewel featuring so many uniquely themed sims. The sims are so cheap to rent, the prim count allowed to the user is amazing and the support is extremely professional, fast responses too. It’s my number one OpenSim grid since leaving Second Life.”

“Littlefield has by far the most effective and responsive admin team. The regions run smoother than anywhere else. I respect their content policy which makes me feel that they respect creators. And they are really friendly and welcoming, and fun to be around.”

“Lots of great role play and public sims to investigate. Great weekly dance party!”

“The content here is amazing and it’s all free, and all original content not like you see on any other grid.”

“The grid runs more smoothly than any other and the content available is unsurpassed, but the emphasis on COMMUNITY is what really sets Littlefield apart. This is a grid where people matter and they really take good care of us. It’s not a wild west situation like some grids, on Littlefield bad actors are not tolerated, and that means that it is a safe place. It is not just a tech toy for the owners; it is a welcoming, friendly community of real people. I would never live anywhere else.”

“This grid has the best BDSM content out there, and the nicest community I ever met. Everyone is helpful and friendly. The support people are great also, they respond to any questions I have right away.”

Thank you all again to our residents and hypergrid visitors for all the wonderful feedback you provided in this survey.  We are so happy that we are providing you with a grid that you can call home and enjoy visiting.

Celebrating 2 Years! Join In – There’s Still Time!

lfg2wtextReserve Your Space Now for the Littlefield Anniversary Expo!

Our fabulous Anniversary Expo is back! We would like EVERY Littlefield Resident to participate this year. After all, YOU ARE THE GRID. You are one of the wonderful people who is the life blood of our community. This party is for you!

Littlefield Grid

2nd Anniversary Expo

April 4-30

It is easy to join in the celebration. We have a variety of spaces this year, from very small to very large. There are places for all different kinds of contributions. Building is encouraged but is not required. You can do something as simple as a photo… or build an epic installation.

The Expo opens April 4 so you’ve still got two weeks. Come on over to Littlefield Anniversary region, claim your space and pitch in!

HOW BIG ARE THE EXHIBIT SPACES?

This year we are offering four options:

Poster 2×2 – holds 1 photo and an optional short text message. Super easy!

Booth 12×12 – perfect for a small creation, a photo wall or a few small objects. Quick!

Field 60×60 – enough space for your epic build. Big!

Gallery – small building to display a collection of images and/or a few small objects. Thought provoking!

HOW DO I CLAIM A SPACE?

If you are a Littlefield resident you can simply help yourself. Come to the region Littlefield Anniversary. Maps are at the landing zone. Find an empty space that you like, rez a prim on it, notify an admin and start building. First come first served.

If you don’t see any empty spaces in the size you want, ask an admin and we’ll make one for you.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLETING EXHIBITS?

The Anniversary Expo is April 4-30. Please complete your exhibit by Friday, April 3.

WHAT DO I PUT IN MY EXHIBIT?

Be creative – make anything you want. Say something about yourself, about our community, or tell a story on a theme that is meaningful to you. Share something cool that you made. Offer good wishes to the grid, tell about good times you had this year, or share your dreams about the future.

BUILDING NOT REQUIRED. You can create an exhibit using photos, or even text. We can help you with a display for photos, and even a way to display plain text. Or, if you have an idea, but don’t know how to make it, team up with a builder buddy and collaborate.

I NEED SOME IDEAS!

Here are a few to get you started.

TELL A STORY. Use photos and objects to tell the story of your life in the virtual world. Maybe it’s about your relationship, or your adventures (or misadventures), or your RP community. We ALL have a story. We want to know yours!

SHOW YOUR INTERESTS. What are you passionate about? Gardening? Decorating? Fashion? Music? Use your exhibit to share your passions.

PROVIDE SOMETHING FUN FOR PEOPLE TO DO. It doesn’t have to be “about” anything. Some of the most popular expo exhibits are just fun activities that give people a smile.

PLAY WITH AN IDEA. Choose a theme, and create a “collage” that expresses your thoughts about it. Some possible themes: Friendship. Dreams. Community. What do these things mean to you?

PROMOTE YOUR CAUSE. If you represent an organization, a lifestyle, an RP community or something similar, create a small poster or exhibit to let people know why it’s so great.

GIVE A GIFT. If you have a store in Littlefield, make a new exclusive item to share only at the Expo.

Just a reminder: We will be sharing photos and video of the Expo all over the internet. As always, please make sure that everything in your exhibit is an original creation. If you obtained some of your content from another grid, please be absolutely certain that you know exactly who the original artist was, and that the original artist gave permission for the item to be shared.

Remember, Littlefield is about people – about YOU. We want to celebrate the best of what Littlefield is, and what it can be. We want to celebrate you.

If you have any questions, please ask Camryn Darkstone, Toy McBride, Dirk Mathers or Walter Balazic.

Thank you for a wonderful second year, and here’s to an even more spectacular third year!

Fashions on Littlefield Grid

Littlefield Grid has come along way with content since we began long ago in OSgrid.  We had one wonderful clothes maker, Ada Wong, poor Ada was so over worked back in the day, without her we had no shoes or boots etc she worked very hard to make us girls all look great.  But since we started our own grid nearly 2 years ago we’ve come along way, many wonderful content creators have joined our family and we have many sims with shopping now.  I believe, I may be a tad biased, we have some of the best fashion in opensim.

So my post today is to show you all what is available on our grid.  We have a wonderful range of clothing, including mesh clothing skins, makeup.  This is just an example of what is available, there is so much more to see, so come on over and explore.

Thank you to all our wonderful creators.

An Invitation to our First Anniversary Bash

Littlefield will be one year old in April! It has been a wonderful first year, and we would like to invite you to celebrate it with us!

All Littlefield residents are invited to participate in our Anniversary Expo which will be held from April 6-12. This is a chance for all Littlefield residents to get to know each other, and celebrate this wonderful community that has grown to 1,000 members in just one year. We would like you to create an exhibit to share something about yourself, your creations and/or your interests.

Any resident may contribute an exhibit for the event. Free space for exhibits is available, with parcels up to 80×80. Spaces are available now. Exhibits should be completed before April 6.

Exhibits can be just about anything. We hope everyone will contribute! Here are some possible ideas:

  • BUILDING NOT REQUIRED. You can create an exhibit using photos, images, or even text. I’ll be happy to provide a small open-air structure if you need a way to display photos or small objects and you’re not a builder. You can even just write notecards to put into something that can be clicked on to give information to a visitor.
  • COLLABORATE WITH A FRIEND. If you have an idea, but you think you aren’t a builder, why not collaborate with another resident who does build?
  • TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOUR INTERESTS. What are you passionate about? Gardening? Fashion? Music? Use the exhibit to share your passions with us. Show and tell!
  • DISPLAY YOUR CREATIONS. Have you created interesting builds, or clothes? Are you good at landscaping, or interior decoration? Are you an artist, or musician? Make an exhibit with your creations, and let us celebrate your creativity with you.
  • TELL A STORY ABOUT YOU. Use photos and objects to tell the story of your life in the virtual world. Maybe it’s about your relationship, or your adventures (or misadventures), or your RP community. We ALL have a story. We want to know yours!
  • PROVIDE SOMETHING FUN FOR PEOPLE TO DO. It doesn’t have to be “about” anything. Some of the most popular expo exhibits are just fun activities that give people a smile.
  • PLAY WITH AN IDEA. Think about a broad theme, then create a “collage” that expresses your thoughts about it. Some possible themes: Friendship. Hope. Community. Renewal. What do these things mean to you?

Be creative! Let your imagination go! Remember, Littlefield is about people – about YOU. We want to celebrate the best of what Littlefield is, and what it can be. We want to celebrate you.

Here are more details:

LFG Anniversary Week is April 6-13. Please complete your exhibit before April 6 so that we can photograph it before the opening.

Parcels are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To claim a parcel, select any empty parcel, rez a prim on it, and notify one of the Littlefield Admins. We will then put the parcel in your name and you can start building.

Parcels are 80m x 80m with 2929 prims allowed. But you don’t have to use the whole thing. Don’t feel obligated to create a huge build just because there is all that land. It’s okay to create something small. If there is land left over, we’ll help you landscape it.

Parcels are located on the four regions: LFG Anniversary E, LFG Anniversary S, LFG Anniversary W, and LFG Anniversary N. You may claim any vacant parcel on any of these four regions.

Terraforming is allowed on your parcel +/- 3m only.

Please make sure that everything you place on your parcel is either your own original creation, or legally licensed for this grid. We will be taking photos and publicizing them all over the internet so it’s important to protect our grid by using only legal content. All exhibits will be inspected and unauthorized content will be removed.

Please be considerate of other exhibitors. Please don’t build things that would detract from or interfere with other residents’ builds.

If you have any questions, please ask Camryn Darkstone, Toy McBride, Dirk Mathers, Ashton Nobilis or Walter Balazic.

Let’s get all 24 exhibit spaces filled, and make this anniversary the best party yet!

Littlefield Grid Monthly Meeting – 7 Feb 2014

Littlefield Grid Meeting February 7th 2014

Grid Maintenance:

Sunday 9th February – the grid was down for the day, with the grid server update. SQL server has it’s own server now for regions. This will increase speed & capacity. We had purchased a new server that was waiting to be used, we try and keep a year ahead of things to keep the grid running smoothly.

Appearance Issues:

OS has decided to fix a glitch, which is causing some issues right now. They are not testing to make sure things are right which is why we have some hiccups at the moment.

We now have avatar physics at the moment ie: bouncy boobs. If you want bouncy boobs Walter has the box to make this happen.

Sometimes with this release you may see somethings slightly off on your avatar, but without this release a lot more people would have been cloudy.

We tested bullet physics, but are now back on ODE it worked fine in the front end but on the back end it caused issues. Bullet has the fix for walking up stairs without a ramp on them, but we had a bug so had to remove it because it was a large memory hole and was crashing sims. So now we are back on ODE.

Firestorm News:

Cinder Biscuits is no longer in the virtual world community. this is not a good thing she was behind the FS viewer code for OS so this is a sad thing for us. so no upgrades etc at the moment for OS Firestorm. We still have a connection with Jessica Lyon and she will try and do some upgrades for OS as she can. We will support Firestorm still plus you can use Cool Viewer & Singularity, but Darkstorm is not to be used on our grid, copybot viewers are not to be used if you are seen using it you will be automatically banned. Ash has implemented a wonderful feature for our grid to prevent people removing content from our grid, they cannot hypergrid away with out content now. The items will disappear when they HG back to their grid and they will most likely crash on return. Well done Ash 🙂

We are happy to announce we are opening a new public region – Sweethearts

It is a romantic region for dancing and meeting up. It is formal sim, suits & tuxes for men and gowns for women. There are some available in the main building for you to take. We have small gazebos placed around the sim, each has a cuddle bench and dance machine. They are placed so that no one in other gazebos cannot hear you, for some privacy. It is not a sex sim just place to meet and dance etc. There is a stream playing romantic music on the region. There also is a TP button at Littlefield main mall to access the region.

Littlefield Funtime Roller Skate Center located in Littlefield East, (new region still under construction)

One Sunday a month have a skating party there

8pm to midnight PST/grid time

Date & time to be announced soon

Social Media Board:

This has links to Littlefield’s Facebook, Twitter & G+ pages, It will take you to each page by touch of one of the buttons.

if you would like one for your regions please send IM to Toy McBride.

Twitter: @LittlefieldGrid we announce our outages etc there, this will appear on the log in screen.

Shoutcast Tuner:

Walter Balazic now has a Shoutcast tuner that is auto updating, if the shoutcast stream is dead it will make it go away, it also has a searchable menu. It is full perm so you can take the scripts and use in an object of your choice. Contact Walter for a copy.

Inworld profiles:

We encourage you to complete your profiles, this is a good way to show new people coming here that we are an active grid of people. If you can please place a profile pic and a little about yourself, or add some picks. We have a photo booth at LIttlefield if you need a place to take a picture.

Trouble Tickets:

Please remember to log a ticket if you are having any issues on your regions or inworld, try not to wait for an Admin to come online, because we Admins have access to ticket emails even if we are not online. Here is the link to log a ticket. Link to Ticket Page By doing this it helps up track all issues, and see if there are any common issues that are arising on the grid.

Other News:

Open Collar Scripts: They are currently being worked on, we are aware there are some issues with collars ar the moment. Dirk is working hard to rectify the problems.

Walter has rezzed up a copy of Atropia – copy of the Moses Project, Military regions. We have combat meters now, but we need to set them up, more info to come on this. Please feel free to visit this region.

We have now a full list of PUBLIC regions, if you wish to add your region to this list, please let Toy McBride know by note card with a landmark to your region and she will add it to the list.

Please remember to take a look at our calender from time to time, here we list all our upcoming events. Link to calender

Adventure Club next outing is March 8th – Place to be advised, Dirk will be running this adventure as Toy will be offline that day.

Next Grid Meeting Friday March 7th 1.30pm PST/Grid time

Littlefield Grid Community Meeting – 3 Jan 2014

The monthly grid meeting took place as usual on the First Friday of the month, January 3, 2014.

Walter presented our new Community Connect Project, to provide the resources that smaller virtual communities need, at nominal or no cost. Communities and groups with at least ten active members can apply for the Community Connect Project and receive a 50% discount on Littlefield Grid region rentals, paying just $10.00 per month per full region (30,000 prims), for a minimum of four regions. Alternatively, groups who prefer to run their regions on their own hardware can, if accepted into the program, connect their regions to Littlefield Grid at no charge; the usual $5.00 monthly fee will be waived as long as the group remains active and their regions remain available 24×7. The Community Connect Project allows groups to use the Littlefield Grid infrastructure, saving them the overhead of maintaining a set of asset, inventory and group servers and maintaining the robust portion of the Opensimulator environment. We know that running a grid can be a very difficult and trying experience. The Community Connect Project means that small communities need not struggle with underpowered hardware and spend all their time to keep the world running. They can just enjoy each other. We have the resources to support them. We are hoping to assist other communities and share our resources.

In the past few weeks, live music performances came to Littlefield Grid! To encourage attendance, we will have one or two per month. There will be a monthly event at Sound City, the new club in Littlefield East. We were also very fortunate to get Joaquin Gustav, the popular guitarist, to play for us every Second Sunday at 3pm grid time. His next performance will be Sunday, January 12.

Also in Littlefield East, the new roller rink will open soon with a special event.

The Littlefield Art Gallery opening will be January 16. Talk to Omen Crow for details.

The Adventure Club will have its usual meeting the day after the grid meeting. This month’s tour will be of Phoenix Rising, the garden meditation sim designed by Enigma Namaste.

This Sunday, Luminaria region opens with the Festival of Lights for Twelfth Night, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. This is a stunning new winter region that will be decorated for the event with a dazzling display of lights. Ice dancing and ice skating will also be available.

We are having scheduled hangouts several nights a week at 8:00 p.m. grid time. Check the calendar for the evening’s location.

We have our regular weekly dance at Speakeasy on Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. with DJ Walter Balazic. In addition, Omen Crow DJ’s on Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m., and Elric DarkStorm is considering organizing a dance on Friday nights.

Toy McBride is going to create a photo board to display photos from events, helping to show visitors and newcomers who we are and what goes on here on Littlefield Grid. There was some discussion about the best place to display it.

In Opensimulator news, avatar physics will soon be available for us. In addition, there has been a rumor that there may soon be offline IM-to-email support.

The next grid meeting will be held on Friday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m. grid time.
